Maryland State Delegate Melony Ghee Griffith-(District 25)Chair, Prince George's County House DelegationMelony G. Griffith was elected to the Maryland General Assembly in 1998. She currently serves as a member of the House Appropriations Committee where she is the Vice Chair of the Capital Budget and the Chair of the Oversight Committee on Pensions. In December of 2009, Melony was elected by the 23 members of the Prince Georges County House Delegation to serve as their Chairman. She previously served on the Child Welfare Work Group, the Joint Committee on Children Youth and Families, and the House Judiciary Committee. Griffith has a long history of public service in the government and non-profit sectors.Melony G. Griffith received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services from Montana State University Billings, (formerly Eastern Montana College) with concentrations in Psychology, Criminology, and Rehabilitation. She obtained a Master of Social Work Degree from Howard University with a focus on Child and Family Services. In addition to volunteering as an HIV/AIDS support group leader for Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington, DC., her professional experience has included service as a hospital social worker, a research project coordinator, and as Program Coordinator for the National Basketball Players Association Health Education Project at the Johns Hopkins University. As a consultant, Melony has provided training and technical assistance to over 50 groups and organizations nationally around organizational development, social marketing, qualitative research and capacity building. Melony recently directed the Prince Georges County Health Departments Center for Healthy Lifestyle Initiatives (CHLI), focusing on outreach, disease prevention and wellness promotion. She is now the Director of External Affairs at Greater Baden Medical Services, and is an elected member of the Maryland House of Delegates.Melony is the recipient of the 2009 United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) Community Leader/Non-Profit Champion award. She also received the 2009 East Coast Third World Leadership Summit award for Outstanding Leadership.Melony has two sons Lloyd (18) and Cornelius (14), and worships at Zion Church in Largo, Maryland.
